Marble in Your Kitchen and What to Consider

Marble in Your Kitchen and What to Consider

Kitchen in Kansas City with Marble Countertops Marble countertops can give a bright, clean feel while adding a timeless elegance to your kitchen and are a popular choice for the Kansas City area. Carrara is the most common marble used in homes for its style and relatively inexpensive cost when compared to granite. Marble is a great surface for the avid baker as it keeps a cool temperature and can hold up under heat (though it is always recommended to use a pot holder on any surface).

The best way to incorporate marble into your space is to consider where you plan to use it and plan ahead. Marble is a porous surface so it is important to consider a sealer to help slow down the absorption of liquids in the event of a spill. Marble can stain, but luckily there are products to help remove stains, as well as, seal the surface. Most manufacturers recommend sealing marble surfaces about every six months or so. In addition to staining, marble is also a softer surface than granite. Therefore, it is prone to scratching and chipping. For kitchen purposes, it is a good idea to always use a cutting board and to avoid leaning on the counter edges with anything metal (i.e belt buckle, long metal necklaces, etc.)

True marble lovers actually prefer the patina of older marble and don’t mind the life that shows in marble staining and wear. If you are a fan of marble, but not sure you want the upkeep of marble or want a consistently shiny surface maybe consider adding small amounts of marble accents to your space such as a kitchen island as opposed to full countertops. Marble can also make a gorgeous backsplash or accent wall.
